Motorcycle Insurance Costs
Insurance is one of the biggest fixed costs of owning a bike. What you pay comes down to the motorcycle, the rider, and how and where you ride.

Coverage that matters
Liability is required to register and ride in most states and covers damage you cause to others. Comprehensive and collision add theft, fire and crash protection for your own bike.
If you financed or leased, your lienholder will often require full coverage until the loan is paid off. Higher-value or higher-powered bikes may receive higher quotes because repair or replacement exposure can be greater, but the actual premium depends on the insurer, rider, coverage and location.
What moves your premium
Age, riding experience, driving record, ZIP code, and the bike’s power and value all factor in. Young riders and some liter-class sportbikes may receive higher quotes, but compare actual offers because cruisers and commuters are not priced identically by every insurer.
Completing an MSF rider course can earn a discount with many carriers, and bundling with auto or home often helps. Some riders drop to storage-only comprehensive over the winter to save.
